Here is a podcast series from Harvard Business Review, which forms part of the recommended resources for Module 3 (M3) of the ISAPS L.I.F.T. Program: Personal Wellbeing.
HBR Ideacasts offer insights and tools on a range of topics for business, leadership, and personal well-being. These titles focus on Personal Wellbeing.
When Small Stresses Lead to Big Problems
It's easy to see how major stresses - layoffs, illness, a complex project - cause anxiety to spike. But the stresses that cause the most harm are often the tiny, everyday ones that build up over time into a bigger problem because we don't take the time to recognize and manage our reactions to them. Former HBR editor Karen Dillon and Babson College Professor Rob Cross study "microstress" and the ways it impacts individuals and teams. Left unchecked, microstress can lead to mistakes, burnout, damaged relationships, and poor mental and physical health. They also offer advice for better handling microstress and helping others to do the same. Dillon and Cross also wrote the book “The Microstress Effect” and the HBR article "The Hidden Toll of Microstress."
Breaking Through When You Feel Stuck
We can all get stuck in our thought processes and actions as leaders and managers. Adam Alter is a Marketing Professor at NYU Stern School of Business and has studied how people hit plateaus or roadblocks in their work and careers. He shares methods for breaking free from these, including surpringly “doing nothing”. Alter also wrote the book “Anatomy of a Breakthrough: How to Get Unstuck When It Matters Most.”
How Managing Your Anxiety Can Make You a Better Leader
The business world has increasingly begun to recognize the importance of anxiety and mental health, but we still often fail to deal effectively with it. Writer, entrepreneur, and podcaster Morra Aarons-Mele identifies ways to stop anxiety from spiraling and instead use it for good. She is also the author of “The Anxious Achiever: Turn Your Biggest Fears into Your Leadership Superpower”.
